Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

Miyazaki’s Phoenix Seagaia Resort launches new sustainability program

The Phoenix Seagaia Resort has announced an innovative new program that aims to bring sustainability to the forefront of the vacation experience. The resort is now accepting reservations for its “Enjoy Sustainability at the Resort Accommodation Plan.”

The program incorporates an educational aspect, offering guests a choice between two unique experiences. They can participate in the “Black Pine Forest Planting Program,” aimed at preserving the resort’s indigenous black pine forest, or opt for the “Pineapple Regeneration Program,” a project that repurposes the typically discarded stalks of pineapples served at the resort for reharvesting in three years.

But the sustainability effort doesn’t stop there. Each guest room will be equipped with eco-conscious items, such as toothbrushes made from resort waste pines, plantable pencils, and eco-bags featuring Seagaia’s sustainability logo. Guests will also be offered unlimited day-use bike rentals, promoting an environmentally-friendly mode of transportation during their stay.

Adding an inventive twist to energy conservation, the resort will provide a “Home Star” home planetarium, a device that uses less electricity than room lights, encouraging guests to save energy in an enjoyable manner. This idea originated from an initiative called “Miyazaki SDGs Action”, a 10-year project to learn about and promote sustainable practices, wherein high school students came up with “fun energy-saving ideas”.
