Women experience their periods at some point in their lives. Many might have felt anxious when they had their first period. Furthermore, menstrual irregularity is common for a few years after one’s first menstrual period.
In Japan, pads have been mainstream as period products. As discussions about menstruation and its products are still taboo, many teen girls carry a pouch with pads in it when they go to the bathroom at school. Some feel self-conscious doing so because others may recognize that they are on their period. In addition, especially at school, where students sit in chairs for long periods or exercise in PE class, there is always the fear that menstrual blood will leak and stain clothes and chairs.
More and more people are choosing absorbent panties for such occasions. Recently, various brands have started selling smaller sizes for adolescents. Today, we will introduce three Japanese period underwear brands for teen girls!
UNIQLO: AIRism Absorbent Underwear
UNIQLO, a widely known fashion brand, released AIRism absorbent underwear last year. AIRism is a popular fabric by UNIQLO that keeps clothes comfortable to the touch by dehumidifying the inside of the garment.
Their absorbent underwear has three layers of waterproofing, absorption and quick-drying which prevent odor. The amount of absorption is about 25 to 30ml, so using it in combination with other menstrual products such as pads or tampons is recommended when menstrual flow is heavy.
The price is reasonable at 1,500 yen, making it a good choice for those who want to try absorbent shorts and are looking for breathable shorts for summer!
Bé-A: Petite Signature Shorts
Bé-A is known among adults for its high absorbency. Not only adult sizes but also children’s sizes are available! The difference from the adult version is that the absorbent surface is gray. Since cycles and menstrual blood volume are not stable for several years after first menstruation, it is designed so that you can see for yourself the amount of blood and the beginning of menstruation.
Their underwear absorbs about 120ml, and its boxer brief style prevents leakage from the sides. Moreover, two layers of fabric contain terahertz ore that emits electromagnetic waves to warm your stomach. Packaging is also environmentally friendly, using 100% recycled or FSC-certified paper.
If you are looking for something more environmentally friendly and want to keep your stomach warm, this brand would be an excellent option.
LAQREE Pants: Absorbent Underwear for Period
LAQREE sells a size 130, which is suitable for heights of 125-135cm in addition to adult sizes. Available in 30ml, 50ml, 70ml, and 140ml of absorption volumes, so you can choose depending on the amount of menstrual blood.
The 50ml type has a gray absorbing surface, making it easy to notice if menstruation has started or if there are any changes in menstrual blood. The 140ml type is a boxer, so it feels secure when moving around in PE class. Some of them have pretty designs with lace on them, which may lift your mood.
Additionally, LAQREE has designed an “Eco Laundry Washing Bag” based on their care for the environment, which is made of 100% cotton to prevent the discharge of microplastics into the ocean.
These absorbent underwear can make teen girls feel more comfortable with their period. More options are emerging, so look for the item that is right for you!
