Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

Enjoy clean energy and vegan food at NAKED cherry blossom light up

The night cherry blossom viewing event “NAKED Sakura no Shinjuku Gyoen 2023” will take place from 31 March to 23 April. It aims to provide a sustainable cherry blossom viewing experience that prioritizes nature and the environment. The event features light-up and projection mapping, including the use of the fuel cell vehicle “MIRAI” and the “Moving e” fuel cell bus. The cherry blossoms will be illuminated by gentle lights, and the event does not use a generator, making it an eco-friendly experience.

The park cafe “NATIONAL PARKS CAFE Under the Tree” and the kitchen car will sell a sustainable vegan menu suitable for cherry blossom viewing at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, where bringing alcoholic beverages is originally prohibited. The vegan menu includes mocktails, vegan nuggets, vegan chowder soup, sakuramochi-style scones, and other food, sweets, and drinks. The containers and straws used for serving are made of eco-friendly materials such as bioplastics, wood, and paper.

Visitors can relax in the art cherry blossom viewing area at the TREE by NAKED kitchen car, where they can enjoy vegan food and drinks. Artist Ryotaro Muramatsu’s “DANDELION PROJECT” art project will collaborate with the cherry blossoms of Shinjuku Gyoen for the first time, creating a new work called “SAKURA DANDELION.” Projection mapping will allow visitors to connect with Nijo Castle in Kyoto, another participating site in the project, and enjoy the flowers of peace. The cherry blossom petal patterns projected along the 100m-long path change according to the flowering season, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms at their best no matter when they visit.
