Wellness-focused facilities offering serene experiences in Tokyo

In a cutting-edge society, speed and productivity are always demanded. Are you looking for a place where you can pause fight-or-flight mode and completely unwind, even for a short time?

Why is relaxation necessary for you?

The longer people remain in fight-or-flight mode, the more prone they become to chronic exhaustion. In contrast, a deep state of relaxation can help reinvigorate you and enhance your work performance. A number of wellness facilities in Tokyo have been growing, offering spaces where professionals can release their tension between workdays or on weekends.

Well-being experiences in the metropolis

Here are three curated places in Tokyo where you can find moments of serenity.

CARAPPO is the well-being facilities complex, which provides guests with extraordinary spaces based on their concept of “stepping away from the external world; reset yourself.” It has just opened in Toranomon Hills Station Tower on October 1st. The services incorporate some elements and a lounge, allowing users to switch between work and relaxation modes.

Sauna

There are two sauna spaces with different purposes. One is MU:, which helps you let go of your thoughts and focus on yourself. The other, KU:, encourages you to appreciate the people and things around you and find personal values. Carbonated mineral baths improve blood flow and are believed to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Meditation

The meditation studio is designed to enhance the quality of meditation. Certified instructors conduct sessions to guide you into a deeper meditative state.

Lounge ENGAWA

ENGAWA is a place inspired by traditional Japanese homes, designed for relaxation and socializing. The lounge’s goal is to give guests an extended period to do nothing and simply unwind.

CARAPPO also pays close attention to its amenities, which not only promote self-healing but also reduce environmental impact.

Kouunji (Setagaya Ward)

ZaZen sessions are held at the historic Kouunji Temple, which boasts a 290-year history and is surrounded by seasonal flowers and trees. ZaZen teaches participants to stop overthinking and recognize how their thoughts control them. This experience helps you distance yourself from a busy mind and find inner peace.

Kouunji welcomes those interested in ZaZen. Introductory sessions are held every Saturday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and they can be conducted in English with advance sign-up. Additionally, monthly sessions for all levels take place on the first Sunday of each month, from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Aman Tokyo offers rich experiences featuring seasonal elements that amplify your wellness journey. The wellness programs focus on cleansing both body and mind, incorporating principles from Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan, where water is used to purify. Guests are bathed in warm water to experience the full benefits of the treatments.

Traditional Japanese medical practices are applied throughout the wellness experience. A sacred tree, the camphor, believed to have spiritual power and often grown at temples, is used to promote serenity and self-discovery. Essential oils and locally produced rice oils are also featured in the massages.
