Takashimaya’s food drive donates 725 kg of food

Embracing the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) management model, Takashimaya Co., Ltd. known for its expansive array of culinary offerings in its food floors and restaurants, has committed itself to reducing food waste. The company has set an ambitious goal to attain a 100% recycling rate for organic waste and a 20% reduction in waste output by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. To this end, the company initiated its “Food Drive Activities” last year, collecting unutilized food items from homes to donate to food banks and local welfare institutions.

In its most recent endeavor, Takashimaya conducted the second iteration of its “Food Drive Activity.” The initiative this time extended to eight outlets, adding the Okayama and Gifu stores to the original six – Nihonbashi, Yokohama, Osaka, Senboku, Sakai, and Kyoto – from last year’s drive. Owing to the generosity of customers eager to help those in need, and the collaboration with local food manufacturers, the food drive gathered approximately 725 kilograms of food items from around 220 patrons across the eight stores. This haul, added to the previous round’s approximately 360 kilograms, brings the total to a commendable 1,085 kilograms. Furthermore, Takashimaya made a significant contribution of its own by donating disaster reserve items, such as cookies and bread, nearing their best-before dates.
