Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

People Tree is back in global Organic September movement

Popular brand People Tree joins in the annual Organic September again, and is using the chance to spread awareness of organic items in Japan.

Organic September is popularized by the Soil Association, a British certification body where People Tree has obtained GOTS certification from, a world standard for organic textiles. Retailers and farmers worldwide are supporting organic products, including clothing, food and beverages. This global campaign is an opportunity for people to learn about organic products goodness in all genres, such as cosmetics and healthcare.

Many benefits come along with using organic products, including reduced pesticides usage in growing cotton and organic food without artificial coloring and preservatives. Sustainable practices help address global warming (and consequently, the extreme weather we are experiencing.) Furthermore, organic means high standards are adhered to when considering animal protection, especially wildlife protection.

The biggest impact organic items have in our lives is probably fashion. And it’s no secret how big a polluter the fashion industry is. According to the 2018 UNECE, the fashion industry accounts for 10% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and 20% of its wastewater emissions, making it the second most deteriorating industry.

This includes cotton production too, as it is water-intensive, estimating to require more than 2,700 liters of water to produce a cotton T-shirt. The Soil Association has demonstrated that organic cotton saves and conserves water resources and reduces carbon dioxide emissions, for example, 98% less affected by water pollution than unsustainable cultivation.

For People Tree, choosing “organic” and “fair trade” is a reliable way to create a sustainable society, which is in line with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). It continues promoting a sustainable lifestyle that allows one to make the world a better place while still enjoying fashionable clothes and delicious food.

As part of the Organic September campaign, People Tree is holding a monitoring campaign for organic cotton underwear at People Tree’s online shop between 1 and 8 September.

People Tree is planning a second Organic September campaign in the latter half of September. Details will be announced on their special website.
