Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

Extending life of your bags with SOCIAL VINTAGE by MOTHERHOUSE

MOTHERHOUSE is a Japanese bag label whose philosophy lies in promoting the undiscovered potential of developing countries. They take pride in their unique and heartwarming products, which are made in ethical manufacturing factories in Bangladesh and Nepal. They also develop original cloths using materials exclusive to individual manufacturing regions. Examples include jute, leather, silk and cashmere. Apart from Japan, they also have stores in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

SOCIAL VINTAGE is a service offered by MOTHERHOUSE. It focuses on three areas: care, repair, recovery & remake. The intention behind this service is to provide support to customers to extend the lifespan of products and encourage a sustainable lifestyle. This service is available both in stores and online.

Care by SOCIAL VINTAGE

There are two types of care options at MOTHERHOUSE: before care and aftercare. Before care focuses on prevention. It offers protective care solutions such as regular application of protection cream and product cleansing. On the other hand, aftercare takes care of scratches, dirt and stains formed over time. It primarily works on leather rejuvenation such as cleansing, color retouching and waterproofing.

Customers can also take care of their products at home by purchasing appropriate care products and tools sold by MOTHERHOUSE. Instructional videos will be provided.

Repair by SOCIAL VINTAGE

Repair service is available for defect or damaged products. Each product is entitled to free repair (or replacement) within 6 months from the date of purchase. Repair consultation is also available online, which helps identify the repair needs within 15 minutes.

Recovery & Remake by SOCIAL VINTAGE

MOTHERHOUSE leather bags that can no longer be used are also collected, disassembled and made into new products.

A social point card is issued to every customer during their initial purchase. This system is a social initiative created to support manufacturing regions. Customers will receive 25 social points for each leather bag contribution. Every 25 social points are worth a shopping discount of 1,500 yen. On top of that, for every 25 social points used, an additional 1,000 yen will be donated by the company as a social contribution to developing countries to aid in activities such as relief support.

Recovered and remade leather bags are launched under the RINNE series. Due to the manufacturing nature of these products, there is only one of each design. The skilled craftsmanship allows customers to enjoy a blend of old and new in a single product.

Initiatives such as SOCIAL VINTAGE is one of the many social actions supported by MOTHERHOUSE. The company believes that sustainability is possible only when everybody is sustainable. Hence, they will continue to strive and hope to achieve sustainability for their people and products someday.
