People Port Co., Ltd. has inaugurated its “Ethical Challenge 2023” campaign. The initiative, which kicked off on August 1, is laser-focused on leveraging refurbished computers, branded as “ZERO PC”, to curb CO2 emissions and electronic waste.
The move comes as global attention hones in on the United Nations’ annual Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) report, which recently showed Japan slipping to 19th out of 163 countries for the third year running. Notably, challenges such as responsible consumption and production, along with climate change measures, were underscored as particularly pressing.
People Port’s initiative seeks to directly respond to these challenges. The company has outlined a two-pronged approach: Firstly, by promoting the adoption of their “ZERO PC”, they anticipate a reduction in CO2 emissions. Secondly, they are rallying behind a robust collection effort for unused computers, aiming to significantly decrease electronic waste.
Their targets are undeniably bold. By October 31, 2023, the firm aspires to introduce 200 ZERO PCs, equating to a potential reduction of 42 tons in CO2 emissions. Concurrently, by gathering 3,500 computers, they hope to reduce electronic waste by an impressive 15 tons.
Companies taking part in this endeavor will not only benefit from the environmental advancements but will also be publicly acknowledged for their contributions. Importantly, the initiative has emphasized flexibility in participation, offering two cost-free collection methods for unused computers: on-site pickups and a collect-on-delivery system.
For companies within Japan eager to join the movement toward a greener future, People Port Co. is actively seeking participation through their designated website.
