Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

Announcement of the “Advanced Resource Recycling Investment Promotion Project”

On December 20, 2024, Japan’s Ministry of the Environment announced the opening of applications for the fiscal year 2024 “Advanced Resource Recycling Investment Promotion Project.” The initiative targets industries classified as “Hard-to-Abate,” known for their significant challenges in reducing CO2 emissions. The focus is on implementing resource recycling facilities and introducing high-quality recycled materials needed for the production of innovative green transformation (GX) products.

The project aims to enhance sustainability across domestic industries by promoting GX through the utilisation of resource recycling technologies within Hard-to-Abate sectors. Specific initiatives include supporting the demonstration and introduction of advanced resource recycling technologies and equipment, facilitating recycling or thermal recovery operations, and supplying recycled materials or energy sources to Hard-to-Abate industries. It also covers projects that provide raw materials for products essential to the transition to GX.

The application process is managed by the Japan Waste Research Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation established to ensure proper waste management and promote resource utilisation. The foundation serves as the executing body for the “Advanced Resource Recycling Investment Promotion Project.”

The application period for indirect subsidy operators runs from December 20, 2024, to January 31, 2025, closing at noon.
