Saitama Prefecture is rolling out financial support to help local businesses transition towards a circular economy to encourage the efficient use and reuse of resources. From 4 April to 14 May 2025, companies can apply for one of four subsidies that support sustainable innovation in product design, food waste recycling, waste treatment technology, and business collaboration.
The first subsidy helps businesses improve product design to make recycling easier. This includes prototypes that use fewer materials, simplify disassembly, or switch to recyclable alternatives. It is open to companies based in Saitama and can cover up to two-thirds of project costs, with a maximum of 20 million yen.
The second supports food manufacturers that want to turn production waste into new products, materials, or energy. Funding can be used for equipment or systems that enable upcycling or biomass energy generation. Small businesses may receive up to three-quarters of costs covered, with the same funding cap of 20 million yen.
The third subsidy is intended for waste treatment companies looking to improve their recycling processes through new technologies. Eligible businesses must operate within the prefecture and can receive up to 20 million yen. Small and medium-sized enterprises may qualify for a higher reimbursement rate.
The fourth encourages small and medium-sized enterprises to work together to develop entirely new business models based on circular economy principles. Projects must be both innovative and collaborative. Funding covers up to two-thirds of costs, with a cap of 7.5 million yen.
By covering a significant portion of development and equipment costs, these subsidies offer practical support and lower barriers to create a circular future.
