Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

“Jokatsu Hot Line” launches as resource for women’s workplace advancement

A new digital platform launched this week aims to be a comprehensive resource for companies looking to elevate gender diversity, with a particular focus on the promotion of women in leadership roles. The beta version of “Jokatsu Hot Line” arrived at a pivotal moment in the national conversation about diversity and inclusion.

In recent years, the urgent need for accelerating workplace diversity has become increasingly evident. The government has set ambitious goals, calling on companies listed on the prime market to aim for at least 30% female board members by 2030. These directives align with market trends that saw ESG investments in Japan reach approximately 320 trillion yen in 2020. The presence of women in executive and managerial positions is becoming a critical indicator for investors.

The platform’s launch is timely, especially as Generation Z enters the workforce, bringing with them a heightened focus on the importance of diversity and women’s empowerment when choosing an employer. However, a gap exists between the government and market incentives and the practical understanding of why gender diversity is essential in business settings.

Jokatsu Hot Line aims to bridge this knowledge gap by offering a wide range of content, including information from the Institute for the Advancement of Women, case studies, webinar information, and research reports and columns. The website serves as a space where individuals and corporations can freely learn about the necessity of women’s active participation in the professional world.

In addition to providing valuable data and insights, the platform is expected to roll out paid video content to further enrich its offerings. The goal is not just to inform, but also to bring about a tangible change in corporate culture.

The platform has a comprehensive training program to offer, covering not just diversity training for all employees, but also specialized training aimed at male managers and programs designed to promote women to managerial positions. It even includes training on unconscious bias and health literacy, taking a 360-degree approach to the complexities involved in creating a more inclusive workplace.
