New release! BIKAS COFFEE Cherry Syrup from upcycled coffee cherries

BIKAS COFFEE, a coffee brand dedicated to sustainable coffee from Nepal, is proud to announce the launch of “BIKAS COFFEE Cherry Syrup.” This new product creatively upcycles discarded coffee cherries, which are usually a byproduct of the coffee production process, transforming waste into value.

The inspiration for BIKAS COFFEE Cherry Syrup comes from addressing the environmental challenges of coffee production while creating economic opportunities for farmers in Harpan village, Nepal. Coffee cherries, the fruit surrounding the coffee bean, often make up around 40% of the harvested material but are typically discarded due to lower market demand. Improper disposal can lead to environmental harm, such as methane emissions and water pollution. By transforming these cherries into syrup, BIKAS COFFEE reduces the negative impacts.

The syrup will also provide added income to the Harpan farmers by up to 1.5 times, which helps to stabilize rural livelihoods, reduce migration to urban centers and boost community resilience. BIKAS COFFEE always has close collaboration with local farmers of Harpan, employing agroforestry techniques that blend agriculture with forest conservation. BIKAS COFFEE has also been running a “Coffee Tree Planting Project” since 2021, allowing individuals to sponsor and plant coffee trees in Harpan. As such, they have been able to plant 470 new trees as part of a long-term sustainable development vision.
