Tabio Co. Ltd., the company behind specialty sock stores such as “Kutsushitaya,” “Tabio,” and “TabioMEN,” is launching the second product from its FOOD TEXTILE project.
This project aims to recycle waste food materials by using thread made from them. The base material for these products is TRUECOTTON, a traceable organic cotton from Turkey that allows customers to see the face of the producer. The products are dyed using gentle dyes that are kind to both the environment and people, made from waste food materials collected from food-related companies.
The products will be available in six colors: Ginger, Rose Red, Matcha, Celery, Red Cabbage, and Blueberry. They can be purchased through the official online store or at any Tabio store nationwide.
FOOD TEXTILE is a sustainable brand collaboration between Toyoshima Co. Ltd. (a food company), a company that provides raw materials for the dyes, and a collaboration company that develops products using those fabrics. FOOD TEXTILE purchases non-standard ingredients, vegetable scraps, and dried coffee grounds that would have been discarded by food-related companies and farms, extracts the ingredients, and uses them as dyes to color fabrics and threads. By doing so, FOOD TEXTILE is creating new products from things that would have been thrown away. The project is currently working with more than 50 domestic food-related companies, agriculture and farms to build a sustainable system that connects industries.
