2foods began offering its first plant-based Christmas cakes

Ordering a Christmas cake ahead of time is on many Japanese people’s holiday to-do list. Cake shops, supermarkets and online stores have already been advertising and started accepting orders. This year, some offer plant-based cakes for those looking for the option.

Creating “Yummy But So Healthy” cakes

2foods began accepting pre-orders for its first two Christmas cakes, “Melt in Your Heart Premium Plant-Based Shortcake” and “Rich Plant-Based Chocolat Tart.” 2foods is a plant-based food brand from Japan that develops “healthy junk food.” They are working to establish a new plant-based food culture to help realize an ethical society, including consideration for the global environment.

The brand took on the challenge of not using animal ingredients, and through various trials and errors, created Christmas cakes using only plant-based ingredients.

Melt in Your Heart Premium Plant-Based Shortcake features a mouth-watering appearance by generously topping the sponge cake with the original rich and thick plant-based whipped cream. A moist, gluten-free brown rice flour sponge cake sandwiches juicy strawberry jelly.

Rich Plant-Based Chocolat Tart offers a generous portion of plant-based chocolate mousse on a gluten-free tart base. Mousse is generally made with gelatin, an animal ingredient, but 2foods uses a natural ingredient called strawberry polyphenol to achieve a surprisingly rich and smooth texture. Moreover, the gluten-free tart dough gives great texture and aroma.

The cakes are available at 2foods’ online store, Amazon and Cake.jp. In addition, from December 16, a limited quantity will be available for pre-order at five 2foods stores in Tokyo. You can receive your cake between the dates from December 22 and December 25. It may be a good idea to place your order early so you can savor a plant-based Christmas cake this holiday season.

The sweets industry in Japan has been keen to start offering plant-based products lately as we introduced in another article, “TUTTO’s impressive vegan gelato to satisfy everyone.” The number of vegan-friendly shops has also increased dramatically over the past few years. The trend is expected to keep rising as inbound tourists return to Japan.
