Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2023 to be held 17-19 Oct

The Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit (TSSS), the premier Asian event centered on fostering a sustainable fishing industry, is set to return as an in-person gathering from October 17 to 19.

This summit marks its ninth year, originating in Japan in 2015. It plays a pivotal role in uniting key industry figures from both Japan and around the world, providing a platform for sharing crucial information on environmental and social sustainability within the seafood sector.

This year, TSSS will take place at the Belle Salle Shinjuku Grand, marking the first fully in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic halted physical assemblies. Amidst the digital shift during the pandemic, the TSSS successfully provided an online networking platform for numerous international and domestic participants.

TSSS, which is positioned at the heart of the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) midway point in 2023, aims to foster dialogue and foster cooperation among stakeholders. It’s dedicated to bolstering the marine food system’s sustainability and endorsing a nature-positive future, in light of the increasing global population, which has recently surpassed eight billion.

“We live in a time when many are concerned about global food security due to environmental degradation and geopolitical effects,” a spokesperson for the summit said. “Addressing the issue of securing sources of protein is becoming an urgent task.”

The TSSS has extended invitations to a broad spectrum of industry thought leaders, including those working at the forefront of corporations, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions. The aim is to provide a robust platform for comprehensive debate on enhancing the environmental and social sustainability of seafood.
