Ligaretta, the upcycling brand that launched in January 2023, is set to begin retailing its products at “Have a Nice TOKYO!” in Marunouchi, Chiyoda Ward, starting August 21.
The concept behind Ligaretta embraces the global movement toward recycling, reusing, and upcycling – giving discarded materials a new lease on life. The company takes an innovative approach by viewing discarded items from the Daimaru area as “materials steeped in the city’s narrative”. Not only is the aim to decrease waste, but there’s also a fascinating commitment to preserving and extending the stories of the city through these materials.

Few examples exist, either at home or abroad, of an upcycling brand rooted in a city community. Ligaretta aims to identify and collect underutilized materials within the city, link the narratives inherent within them, and stimulate their circulation. The company is thus championing a lifestyle where fashion is steeped in the city’s narrative.
The company’s product line primarily consists of upcycled items made from banner flags that were once displayed along Marunouchi Nakadori. With the aid of an ingenious “secret ground pattern” technology that overcomes rights and intellectual property issues, Ligaretta has managed to salvage and upcycle these previously difficult-to-utilize materials.
This upcoming sales event will feature a range of fashion items, including coats, skirts, bags, ties, and card holders, all created using materials incorporating this transformative pattern.
