New hospitality programme connects travellers with local artisans

International visitors to Japan increasingly seek experiences that connect them directly with local traditions.  Japan Guide Star is launched a cultural collaboration programme for luxury hotels to help fill the demand for tourism needs, providing premium, English-language cultural experiences designed to enhance the stay of international tourists.

Japan Guide Star manages over 30 bespoke tours and cultural workshops across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. For guests preferring to stay indoors, the company dispatches artisans directly to the hotel to conduct workshops in kintsugi pottery repair, chopstick making, and traditional calligraphy. Hotel concierges frequently receive requests to introduce unique and special experiences for inbound tourists and increase guest satisfaction. Outsourcing these cultural arrangements help hotels reduce the logistical burden on their staff while ensuring guests receive world-class hospitality from guides who understand diverse cultural backgrounds.

As the first phase of this partnership, the Imperial Hotel, Osaka officially listed Sumo Studio Osaka on its website as a recommended guest activity. The studio offers an authentic sumo experience led by former professional wrestlers. The organisers intentionally strip away excessive theatrical elements, allowing guests to observe the traditional beauty and physical power of sumo at close range. The programme covers the history and culture of the sport, includes demonstrations of techniques and forbidden moves, and concludes with an opportunity for guests to step into the ring.
