Momentum picks up for the latest climate clocks for Japan

Momentum is picking up for a(n)action, which had a very successful crowdfunding project for climate clocks this year. a(n)action has been installing a climate clock each month from July to September. To date, there are four climate clocks in Shibuya.

The first clock is currently located at SHIBU HACHI BOX. It was revealed on 15 April. SHIBU HACHI BOX is a tourist information office in front of Hachiko Square.

The second clock is at co Shibuya, installed on 5 July. co Shibuya is run by Shibuya City, to create a space where everyone can be involved in looking after the growth of children in Shibuya.

The third climate clock was placed at TWIGGY. in July. This salon is a combination between lifestyle and hair salon, offering spa, organic cafe, and a gallery (which can double as a popup for interested parties).

The latest climate clock has been installed at WWW (or WWWX), a music club where the next Climate Live Japan is going to be held (on 16 October). It made its appearance earlier this month on 7 September.

Different from the larger-scale climate clocks in New York, Glasgow, and Seoul, the climate clocks in Shibuya are smaller in scale so that the team can place them in 100 strategic spots of culture and commerce. Shibuya was chosen for its core role in the youth culture.

Note how each clock also has a QR code for easy access to information and motivation behind the climate clocks. It also has a one-click action so the user can join in a petition to seek action from their politicians.

And Shibuya isn’t the only place that is introducing these clocks. Coop pal*system Kanagawa in Yokohama City has also tied down with a(n)action to place a climate clock at their facility, showing support for climate issues. It is also the first climate clock in Kanagawa Prefecture.

They are not stopping there. a(n)action currently has an ongoing project, to rotate the placing of a climate clock weekly at every school in Japan, starting with Hiroshima.

a(n)action continues their passion to hit their target of installing 100 climate clocks in Shibuya, but also welcomes any organization interested in placing a climate clock at their establishment.
