Tokyo National Museum to host fashion show Inclusive Runway® 2026

The Inclusive Association will host a landmark event titled Inclusive Runway® 2026 at Tokyo National Museum on 26 August. The fashion show aims to transcend the boundaries of disability, gender, age, and nationality. It will be co-hosted by the Tokyo National Museum.

The event seeks to address the invisible barriers that exist between individuals in society. Emu Shimizu serves as the general director, supported by fashion designer Yoshiki Tsuruta of the brand tenbo. The show will feature guest models including television personality Ai Haruna and prosthetic leg runner Hisayo Yokota.

The organisers selected the Hyokeikan gallery within the Tokyo National Museum as the venue due to its symbolic significance. The building is an Important Cultural Property from the Meiji era, representing the preservation of Japanese culture. Recent barrier-free renovations at the museum align with the event’s mission to create an environment accessible to all visitors. Furthermore, the name Hyokeikan translates to “a hall for expressing joy”, which reflects the project’s goal of celebrating diverse identities.

The Inclusive Fashion Art Exhibition will take place at the same time and place as the runway show. This programme focuses on the creative process from conception to completion, aiming to establish new forms of expression within the arts and culture sector. The exhibition highlights how different physical and social conditions can contribute to unique artistic outputs.

The Inclusive Association launched a crowdfunding campaign on the READYFOR platform to fund the project.
