Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings Ltd., one of Japan’s leading department store chains, announced its upcoming venture “Peace de Mirai,” set to run from October 11th to 24th. Recognizing the myriad challenges the fashion world faces, the initiative calls for a joint effort across corporate boundaries, looking beyond individual brands and emphasizing a collective push toward industry evolution.
The March 2022 “Denim de Mirai” laid the groundwork for this collaborative endeavor. The upcoming edition expands its outreach by featuring not only Levi brand’s used stock denim but also textiles from international brands such as Liberty Fabrics from Britain, Denmark’s Kvadrat, Japan’s Oshu textile region, and Finland’s iconic design house, Marimekko.
At the heart of this project is a sustainable vision, with an emphasis on upcycling. Textile giants, while producing a myriad of fabrics, often grapple with surplus or leftovers. “Peace de Mirai” takes on this challenge by partnering with approximately 50 talented designers and creators. Their collective effort aims to redefine and revitalize these materials.
This year’s initiative strengthens ties within the retail sector, forming alliances that break conventional corporate silos. Alongside Mitsukoshi Isetan, other notable collaborators include Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores, Iwataya Mitsukoshi, ST Company, Fashion Core Midwest, and Sato Textile Co.
