Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

Workers’ Co-op Village at Yoyogi Park for Earth Day Tokyo 2023, 15-16 April

This year for Earth Day Tokyo, the “Workers’ Co-op Village” adopts the mantra “Let’s create together! A ‘circle’ connecting people and nature,” in harmony with Earth Day Tokyo 2023’s theme “Family Earth: A Welcoming and Gentle Place for All.” Through this lens, the Workers’ Co-op unveils an intricate tapestry of cooperative labor, solutions to the climate crisis, familial support systems, children’s autonomy, and community bonds.

The Workers’ Co-op Village will unveil a vibrant mosaic of booths and talk sessions, with 14 booths and 20 mini-stages. Its essence captures Earth Day Tokyo 2023’s theme, embodying cooperative labor, innovative lifestyles, and work practices to surmount the climate crisis, while constructing an interconnected village where everyone thrives.

Example of three of the booths that will be there:

First, Agri~n Tokyo, focusing on waste oil collection, climate crisis, and energy-saving experiences. Transform waste oil into CO2 emission-free biodiesel fuel, and recharge smartphones using biodiesel fuel generation. Visitors can also engage in an interactive corner to truly grasp the impact of greenhouse gases.

Second, People Port’s Ethical Computer ZERO PC booth dissects computers to reveal a world of rare minerals, conflicts, and child labor, igniting conversations about ethical computer sales and parent-child computer recycling workshops.

Lastly, the Welfare Forest by the 903 City Farm Promotion Council brings together “Living Labs” practitioners from across the country, immersing participants in a lifestyle emphasizing connections with nature and people through activities such as Edo vegetable sales, mobile community farm experiences, and SDGs eco-bag crafting.

Workers’ Co-op Village will be held from April 15-16, between 10 am and 5 pm, at Yoyogi Park (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).
