Zenbird Editorial TeamWakayama City plans to install a biogas plant at the Shikinosato Park roadside station, which will create the city’s first resource-circulating park by converting internal food waste into usable energy and materials.
FOOD HUNTER PARK LLP, the designated manager of the park, will construct the facility in cooperation with Vios Co., Ltd., a company based in Wakayama City. The plant will collect all food waste generated from park facilities, including the Hi no Shokudo restaurant, and use it as raw material for methane fermentation.
Through this fermentation process, the facility will produce soil conditioner alongside electrical and thermal energy. The park administration plans to use the soil conditioner for plant and grounds management. The generated electricity and heat will supply the necessary energy to operate the park facilities, creating a closed-loop system on the premises.
The city will install explanatory signboards that will become an environmental education space for children, while also providing visitors with a first-hand look at how food waste transforms into valuable resources.
