This week, the bustling Marunouchi district becomes more than just a hub of commerce and skyscrapers; it transforms into a playground for sustainability. Harch Inc., a Tokyo-based web media company, is teaming up with Daimaru Yu SDGs ACT5 for a seven-day event that will immerse adults and children alike in the world of resource circulation and sustainable living.
The event, part of Marunouchi Street Park 2023 Summer, will run from Monday, August 28, to Sunday, September 3. Situated on Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue, the booth will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a delayed start of 2 p.m. on Friday, September 1.
A playground for sustainability
The collaborative booth, named “Daimaru Yu SDGs ACT5 × IDEAS FOR GOOD Museum,” aims to make sustainability not just a buzzword but an experience. It builds on Harch Inc.’s long-standing project of “Publishing a better future” through its web magazine, “IDEAS FOR GOOD.” Here, attendees can engage in hands-on activities centered around “Circular Festival—A Fun Fair Where Both Adults and Children Can Experience Resource Circulation.”
More than just an exhibit
While many sustainability events rely heavily on static exhibits, this gathering goes beyond. It incorporates interactive workshops and a retail section featuring ethical products. Visitors can participate in plastic material recycling experiences and even snag upcycled goods by trading in plastic bottle caps.
A social experiment turned tradition
Marunouchi Street Park is no stranger to innovative initiatives. Since its inception in 2019, it has served as a social experiment to explore the future potential of Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue. This year marks the 8th iteration of the event, focusing on making the area more engaging for both residents and visitors. It’s part of a larger initiative to boost the vibrancy of the Daimaru Yu (Otemachi, Marunouchi, Yurakucho) area through quality spaces that encourage people to linger.
A comprehensive approach to community engagement
The 2023 event takes a comprehensive approach to engage the community. It includes heightened security measures via surveillance cameras, investigates new ways to manage future communal spaces, and even establishes a space for musical performances. These add to the revenue streams that keep this dynamic public space thriving.
For those interested in where sustainability intersects with daily life, the “Daimaru Yu SDGs ACT5 × IDEAS FOR GOOD Museum” booth at Marunouchi Street Park offers an intriguing glimpse. It promises to be an educational yet fun-filled experience for people of all ages.
