Soup Stock Tokyo introduces baby and children meals for inclusivity

Soup Stock Tokyo, a popular specialty soup restaurant chain, has announced the introduction of baby food and Kids’ Sets to its menu in all locations. As customers’ life stages change, the company has seen an increase in families with children visiting their stores. To provide a more enjoyable dining experience for parents and support children’s growth, Soup Stock Tokyo now offers free late-stage baby food at some locations.

The baby food is carefully prepared with three principles in mind: visual appeal, enticing aroma, and enjoyable textures. The company aims to make the transition from late-stage baby food to regular meals seamless and enjoyable for children by incorporating challenging ingredients like chives, shiitake mushrooms, and asparagus into their baby food items.

The introduction of these new menu items aligns with Soup Stock Tokyo’s founding concept of “Soup for all!”, emphasizing the importance of soup as a universally loved food across ages, genders, and nationalities. The company is committed to being a brand that tackles societal challenges through its soups, even if it can only make a small impact.

Despite the positive intent behind the new menu items, some critics have accused Soup Stock Tokyo of capitalizing on a new market (intolerance for mothers bringing children to restaurants for meals is sometimes an issue.) In response, the company has reiterated its corporate philosophy of “raising warmth in the world,” which extends beyond simply offering warm soup to warming people’s hearts with their products and services.

Soup Stock Tokyo’s “Soup for all!” initiative encompasses various efforts to cater to customers with different dietary needs and preferences, such as gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly soups, Halal products (currently discontinued), chew-considerate meals, and free meals for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company plans to expand its offerings in the future with hospital meals, nursing care meals, low-salt meals, and emergency food.

The free late-stage baby food provision in all stores is part of this broader initiative, aiming to support those who may hesitate to dine at restaurants with young children. Although initially implemented only in some stores, the positive feedback from customers has led to a nationwide launch.

Soup Stock Tokyo acknowledges that its small store spaces may not be perfect, but it remains committed to welcoming all customers with open hearts. The company emphasizes that it does not discriminate against customers based on age, gender, or family status and values the opinions of all who find value in their soups and services.
