Relier81 is a Kyoto-based brand specialising in upcycled kimono and obi (kimono belt) textiles. For the first time, the brand is introducing stoles made from traditional black-dyed silk kimonos. The brand’s production process also focuses on sustainability. All items are handcrafted by Japanese artisans to ensure quality and support the local footwear industry, which currently faces challenges from an ageing workforce. Relier81 promotes transparency by sharing videos of its manufacturing process on its official website, aiming to foster interest in traditional craftsmanship among younger generations.

The pop-up store at Daimaru Tokyo provides an opportunity for consumers to engage with one-of-a-kind products that reflect cultural preservation in the upcycling of original kimonos.
