Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

Join a warm sustainability talk at BIKAS COFFEE with Irori Circle

The news can feel heavy right now, with conflict and climate worries never far from sight. We are organising the “Sophia Irori” to offer a gentle pause: an evening circle at BIKAS COFFEE where six people settle around a figurative Japanese hearth to talk through sustainability and leave with lighter hearts.

On 19 June we meet in Japanese, and on 20 June in English, both from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cafe turns into its cosy “Night BIKAS” mode, and the only cost is the drink you choose at the counter. (Your drink also helps fund regenerative coffee farming in Nepal!) Please note that if fewer than three people sign up by 11:59 p.m. the night before, we will postpone the session.

We start with quick hellos, then a short introduction to the importance of thinking before diving into two friendly debates: whether it matters who or what creates something in the age of AI, and why translating good intentions into real-world action seems so hard. In a small group of six, it’ll allow participants to hear and share, and have a deeper conversation with each other.

Facilitating both sessions is Roger, editor-in-chief of Zenbird Media, former organiser of Kyoto Socrates Cafe and member of the Climate Reality Corps. Roger believes Japanese wisdom can shape global solutions, and he will keep the discussion flowing with warmth and curiosity.

If world events have you feeling stuck, or you simply long for deeper conversation after dark, book a seat, pick up a brew and join us.
