fotowa expands photographers-for-hire service for LGBTQ families

fotowa, a platform for photographers-for-hire, has increased its number of LGBTQ-friendly, professional photographers to accommodate diverse families looking to create and maintain memories through photos.

On their platform, fotowa’s LGBTQ-friendly photographers are given a tag to show that they are ready to accept families of diverse backgrounds, thus offering the families peace of mind when doing a personal shoot.

This initiative was launched after the brand conducted a survey, revealing 77.4% of surveyees wished to hire a professional photographer for their family, but 94.2% of them have never hired one to do so. Worries included judgment from society and the stress of having to come out to photographers. A reverse survey conducted on the photographers showed that only two photographers have ever had a chance to work with LGBTQ families.

Through this initiative, fotowa wishes to convey that LGBTQ individuals are not special people who require separate services or be judged by gender or gender roles. fotowa’s push for LGBTQ-friendly photographers is not only a welcome push for diversity, but also an additional choice for LGBTQ communities to lead fuller lifestyles.

Currently, 118 registered photographers support this initiative and display the LGBTQ-friendly tag. They are available in 28 prefectures in Japan, mainly in big cities such as Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Osaka. If you are interested in hiring a professional photographer to shoot a family event or occasion, you can search by time, occasion and location on their site.
