FANCL Corporation, a major Japanese cosmetics and dietary supplement manufacturer headquartered in Yokohama, has announced that its cumulative donations of upcycled flower pots to the city exceeded 25,000 units as of November 2025. The pots are produced through the company’s proprietary resource recovery initiative, the FANCL Recycling Programme, which converts used cosmetic containers into horticultural resources.

The FANCL Recycling Programme operates as a circular system designed to reduce plastic waste generated by the beauty industry. Since the programme’s inception in July 2021, the company has collected approximately 1.37 million used containers from its direct retail stores nationwide as of the end of October 2025. These recovered materials undergo a rigorous process of sorting, washing, drying, and crushing at FANCL Smile Co., Ltd., the company’s special subsidiary dedicated to promoting the employment of people with disabilities. Following this intermediate processing, partner companies manufacture the recycled plastic into durable flower pots.

According to FANCL, the total number of flower pots manufactured through this scheme has surpassed 25,500. The company consistently donates these finished products to Yokohama City to support local urban greening efforts. The pots are utilised in various municipal initiatives, including “Garden Necklace Yokohama,” a prominent city-wide flower and greenery event, and the “Life Memorial Tree Project”, which gifts saplings to citizens celebrating significant life milestones. They are also employed in environmental workshops designed for parents and children.
FANCL intends to expand the scope of these activities by collaborating further with customers, local governments, and residents, creating opportunities for stakeholders to participate in environmental conservation through accessible and enjoyable means.
