Experience a child’s perspective at Children’s Point of View Cafe in Tokyo

At the “Children’s Point of View Cafe” located in ITOCHU SDGs STUDIO in Tokyo’s Minato Ward, they are hosting an experiential event featuring VR content called “4m Adults,” which has been created from a child’s perspective.

The “Children’s Point of View Cafe” is an experiential space managed by the organization “Kodomono Shiten Lab©️,” which specializes in interactive exhibitions like “Children’s Point of View” that encourage contemplation about living with children and the broader social context. Within this space, various experiences are available, enabling visitors to understand what it’s like from a child’s perspective, including the weight of a head, the size of breakfast, the perception of time and the heaviness of a school bag.

Additionally, the cafe offers a dining experience where visitors can see just how large common food and drinks appear from a child’s viewpoint, with a menu designed to reflect this unique perspective.

The newly launched “4m Adults” is one of the popular exhibits from the “Children’s Point of View” exhibition. It offers a virtual reality (VR) experience from a child’s perspective to answer the question: “How scary is it for a child when an adult scolds them while standing tall?”

If adults were to suddenly become child-sized, the people around them would appear as towering giants at a height of four meters. “4m Adults” allows users to virtually experience being scolded by these colossal beings through VR footage.

The experience also includes unique creations such as “Baby Head,” which scales up a baby’s head to adult size (about 45 cm long and 21 kg heavy), “2-Year-Old Breakfast” which resizes milk and toast from a toddler’s viewpoint, and “Ito-chan’s 30 Minutes,” which allows you to experience a child’s perception of time through a fixed camera. These imaginative pieces provide visitors with a fascinating perspective on the world through a child’s eyes.

The place to experience this is ITOCHU SDGs STUDIO, located in Kita-Aoyama, Minato Ward, Tokyo. While entry is free, the exhibit pieces are available for experience when using the café services. It’s open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm every day except Mondays.

VR technology, which is also gaining recognition in training facilities and medical settings, has become increasingly accessible via smartphones in recent years. However, the immersive experiences it provides have a profound impact on users. If you’re curious about experiencing childhood again, don’t miss the chance to visit.
