Zenbird Editorial TeamLast month, ECOMMIT and the local government of Iruma City in Saitama Prefecture signed a partnership agreement to promote a circular infrastructure in the city. The two entities will establish a municipal reuse facility inside the Iruma City Recycling Plaza, scheduled to open in autumn this year.
The joint initiative will leverage on funding from the Ministry of the Environment for municipal reuse support addressing price inflation. Under the project, the facility will collect reusable household items that residents no longer need, using ECOMMIT’s operational network to sort, sell, and redistribute them.
Data management is a central component of the project. ECOMMIT will supply Iruma City with traceability data generated by its proprietary tracking system during the collection, sorting, and redistribution phases. This information will enable the local authority to measure and visualise environmental outcomes, including waste reduction figures and carbon dioxide savings.
Furthermore, the partnership includes public awareness efforts to shift citizen behaviour and promote lifestyles that avoid unnecessary waste.
