Daito Trust Construction Co., Ltd. began a collaboration in May 2026 with BIOTECHWORKS-H2 Inc., a startup specialising in technology that converts waste into hydrogen energy without incineration.
This partnership is part of a matching programme facilitated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to connect corporate venture capital with small businesses and startups, especially to address the critical shortage of final disposal sites in Tokyo. Currently, urban areas rely heavily on incinerating mixed waste that is difficult to recycle. The partners aim to move away from incineration by turning waste into a resource and promoting the use of hydrogen as a next-generation energy source.
The first phase of the project consists of a nine-month demonstration experiment involving eight Daito Trust branches across Tokyo. Daito Trust provides the industrial waste generated at its offices and manages the collection and removal processes. BIOTECHWORKS-H2 conducts composition analysis and verifies the conversion of these materials into hydrogen energy. Together, the companies intend to build a practical circular model for urban waste management.
The company plans to eventually transform its managed properties into energy creation hubs, where tenant waste returns to the local community as hydrogen energy.
