Panasonic and OryLab complete remote work pilot for disabled people

OryLab Inc. and Panasonic Corporation have concluded a three-month demonstration project exploring remote employment for people with mobility disabilities. The pilot ran from November 2025 to January 2026, using OriHime avatar robots to allow individuals who cannot leave their homes to participate in corporate operations.

The collaboration focused on expanding the scope of work for disabled individuals beyond traditional service roles. Participants were designated as OriHime pilots, and then tasked with creating employee profile articles for Panasonic. They conducted interviews and managed the writing process entirely remotely by combining the OriHime robot with video conferencing and chat tools. This approach challenges requiring physical presence in the office and demonstrated that technology can remove geographical and physical barriers to employment.

Trial results indicated a large shift in workplace perceptions. Out of 17 Panasonic employees who participated, 16 reported that their view of the abilities and motivation of disabled workers had become more positive. Furthermore, every participant expressed a desire to work with disabled colleagues in the future. Staff noted that communication skills and professional adaptability of the pilots were the primary factors in this change of mindset.

A Panasonic representative shared that the company wants to create an environment where every individual can unlock their potential. She noted that the current lack of opportunities for disabled people to demonstrate their skills is a significant loss for society. The representative from OryLab added that the involvement of an influential company like Panasonic is a vital step towards a society where employment is based on individual capability rather than physical constraints.

OryLab intends to continue collaborating with businesses and local governments to implement these remote working systems across society.
