Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

New bamboo paper diary from Raymay Fujii using local bamboo forest

Stationery manufacturer Raymay Fujii announced it will release its 2026 “Pandafull Life Bamboo Paper Diary” this month, featuring pages made entirely from domestically sourced Japanese bamboo. The product aims to address the environmental damage caused by unmanaged bamboo groves in Japan.

Bamboo grows rapidly, and unmanaged groves can spread into adjacent forests and land, causing a variety of ecological problems. The company believes that the sustainable use of bamboo leads to better forest management and contributes to the conservation of local woodlands, known as satoyama, and biodiversity.

The diary’s paper, “Chikushi 100 Natural,” is designed for durability and a high-quality writing experience. According to the company, the bamboo paper is stronger than conventional high-quality paper, making it resistant to damage from repeated erasing with erasable pens. A thick grade of paper is used for the diary’s pages, allowing for the use of various writing instruments, including fountain and glass pens, without concerns of ink bleeding through.

The uncoated paper has a natural, tactile finish that provides good grip for pen tips. Its kraft-like colour is suitable for a range of ink colours, including white. For the 2026 edition, the company has eliminated the previous polypropylene (PP) cover and adopted a lay-flat binding to improve the writing experience.

The diary will be available in pocket and B6 sizes. The design features illustrations of pandas and is themed around the Year of the Horse, with motifs such as a “Napoleon Panda” on horseback. The monthly block format includes customisable elements, along with traditional Japanese information like Rokuyo (lucky and unlucky days), moon phases, and the 24 solar terms.
