Osaka’s PLAT UMEKITA is engaging people through experiential co-creation and educational exhibits focused on sustainable food. The centre invites visitors to immerse themselves in hands-on exhibitions, workshops, and lectures that explore food sustainability, ethical consumption, and community-driven solutions.
Developed by a consortium including TOPPAN, CINRA, Graduate School of Project Design, and Harch Inc., the project introduces “ethical entertainment”, a fusion of ethical awareness and interactive experiences. This approach actively involves the public, aligning with the growing trend of using experiential learning to shape sustainable habits.

At the heart is the “IDEAS FOR GOOD Museum in PLAT UMEKITA”, a rotating exhibition currently centred on food sustainability. Running for three months from February 2025, it showcases innovative products and ideas addressing food production, waste, and distribution challenges. These are solutions that also serve as a catalyst for community inspiration and tangible change.

Complementing the exhibition, PLAT UMEKITA School hosts lectures and workshops covering a diverse range of topics, from the historical evolution of food systems to modern challenges such as food waste and regional circulation. Expert speakers share insights on integrating sustainable practices into everyday life.
PLAT UMEKITA is blending community collaboration with education by transforming a city park into a laboratory for sustainability. It presents sustainable concepts in an accessible way while offering practical actions. PLAT UMEKITA illustrates how integrating sustainability into public spaces can drive meaningful social engagement. This project serves as a replicable model for cities seeking to create more inclusive and eco-conscious urban environments.
The exhibition runs till the end of April, so consider dropping by PLAT UMEKITA (Google Map) near Umeda Station if you are in Osaka!
