Snap Japan launches AR Lenses to promote disaster prevention awareness

Snap Japan, the company behind the popular communication app Snapchat, has launched three augmented reality (AR) lenses aimed at promoting disaster prevention awareness in Japan. The new AR lenses were created in collaboration with disaster prevention advisor, Tomoya Takani, as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about disaster preparedness and to help people in Japan be better prepared for emergencies.

Japan is prone to natural disasters, such as earthquakes and tsunamis, due to its climate and topography. The lenses were developed with the aim of encouraging people to understand disaster preparedness on a daily basis and to be better equipped to handle such events in the future.

One of the lenses provides step-by-step instructions on how to use a fire extinguisher, as fire is known to be one of the leading causes of death in earthquakes. Another lens teaches people how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) during a disaster, as quick cardiopulmonary resuscitation is crucial in the event of a cardiac arrest. The third lens allows users to simulate a flood by checking the water level around their current location, which can be helpful in making informed decisions during a tsunami.
