Niigata makes push for “Rolling Stock” system for food preparedness

The Niigata Industrial Creation Organization, a foundation that supports companies in Niigata Prefecture with the goal of revitalizing its industries, established a disaster prevention industry in the year following the Great Chuetsu Earthquake of 2004. They formed a study group and are currently collaborating with the prefecture to promote the development and sales channel of disaster prevention products based on past disasters.

To improve household food stockpiles in preparation for disasters, they plan to popularize the “rolling stock” system, which involves purchasing and keeping a little extra food stocked at home at all times. To spread awareness about this campaign, they will promote it at drugstores and other locations.

The campaign will take place one week from 6 to 19 March at supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, and other stores in the prefecture. Posters, point-of-purchase displays, and digital signage will be used to encourage the purchase of products suitable for improving household stockpiles and the rolling stock system. The exact implementation period may vary depending on the company.
