PEEL Lab has created a new plant-based leather from bamboo. It is a biotech venture that promotes sustainable, plant-derived materials, focusing on controlling global warming, preventing food waste and loss, and avoiding animal abuse. They have already had success creating apple leather, so this is their next step.
The first product they are using this bamboo-derived leather is the yoga mat. It replaces the animal and other petroleum-based plastic synthetic leather with the new gentle and sustainable material.
It is a promising material to use in other products in the future. Startup PEEL lab will first make sales for a limited quantity to test the market.
