Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

YOLO Delivery service supports foreign residents during pandemic

The outbreak of COVID-19 has disrupted sources of income and reduced work opportunities in Japan. This has impacted the living situation of foreign residents. Furthermore, even after the COVID-19 State of Emergency was lifted, the food and beverage industry remains in predicament.

In response to the crisis, YOLO Japan Corporation has partnered with Nankai Electric Railway Co. Ltd. to launch YOLO Delivery. The former is Japan’s largest recruitment media platform with more than 160,000 registered users of 226 different nationalities. Foreign residents had reached out to the company, neighboring schools and companies for support. The two companies thus decided to release YOLO Delivery to support those that are struggling.

YOLO Delivery is a food delivery service for restaurants located in Namba, Osaka city. Namba is a district reputable for housing a wide variety of cuisines from all over the world. YOLO Japan hopes to revive the vibrancy of Namba with the trending culture of food delivery.

Restaurants can utilize YOLO Delivery for a flat rate, with no unnecessary extra charges. There are a variety of plans to choose from. Customers only need to pay 500 yen per delivery. The 500 yen is then paid directly to the delivery staff as remuneration. This service benefits the food and beverage industry and foreign residents. It offers delivery service for restaurants at a minimal cost and a source of income for foreign residents.

YOLO Japan also owns YOLO BASE, Japan’s first work training facility that provides comprehensive support and employment for foreigners living in Japan. YOLO BASE consists of a hotel, restaurant and co-working space. A majority of its staff are foreign residents. YOLO BASE also serves as a waiting area for delivery staff.

The outcomes of YOLO Delivery are also in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). YOLO Delivery creates jobs for foreign residents, promoting a sustainable workforce (SDGs Goal 8: Sustainable Development Goal). YOLO Delivery also supports the livelihood of foreign residents (Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities), regulating the income disparity with the locals.

Evidently, the pandemic has a disproportionate effect on people. In times like this, it is important that enterprises support each other.
