The marina also secured the top prize in the Blue Flag Good Practice Competition. This annual contest, organised by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), selected the marina’s circular economy initiative as the best among 13 entries from the Northern Hemisphere. The award specifically recognised the marina’s system for collecting waterweeds from Lake Biwa and repurposing them for use on local farmland. Food waste is also transformed into agricultural resources.

The marina also utilises solar power and optimised energy management systems to reduce its carbon footprint. Safety and environmental monitoring contributes to their certification, too, with installation of anemometers providing real-time wind data to ensure safe vessel operations.

Yanmar Sunset Marina intends to continue maintaining these global standards for environmental protection and service quality.
