Yamanashi artisans blend Hatsune Miku with classic craft

Kato Shokai Inc. has introduced five new collboration products that blend world famous virtual singer Hatsune Miku with traditional Japanese Koshu Inden leathercraft technique to create long lasting everyday items. This fusion of the old and the new fosters a deep appreciation for natural materials and long life design.

Koshu Inden is a designated traditional craft from Yamanashi Prefecture that involves applying delicate lacquer patterns onto deerskin. The new lineup features practical items including a key case, a pen case, a card case and a multi purpose pouch. Each product highlights the soft texture of deerskin and the distinctive three dimensional beauty of traditional lacquer, allowing users to appreciate the high quality materials in their daily lives.

The designs follow two distinct themes. The Future theme visualises the futuristic essence of Hatsune Miku, while the Tradition theme incorporates her image into the classic, historic patterns of Koshu Inden.

Alongside the functional leather goods, Kato Shokai introduced a fully made to order art board. Available in seven traditional leather colours, the 200 millimetre square boards propose a new way to enjoy Koshu Inden. Instead of merely functioning as a utility item, the art board allows individuals to appreciate the artisanal beauty and tactile presence of the craft as interior decor.
