Factory brand y43 has made a noteworthy leap in sustainable manufacturing with the introduction of its latest product, the Recycled Shell Suitcase ‘Glide.’ Now available through the company’s online store, the company has taken a step further by reusing 100% of these offcuts in their new suitcase model, the ‘Glide.’
However, this wasn’t a straightforward process. Design and manufacturing teams had to confront and overcome the concern that using 100% shell offcuts could result in a too-soft body. Through a successful amalgamation of creative design thinking and advanced manufacturing technology, they introduced a linear design with strength variance on the corners, where the load is most likely to impact.
This design not only ensured structural balance but also achieved a pleasing aesthetic. The ‘Glide’ successfully passed all quality management test items at the “A.T.I. (Ace Quality Management Laboratory),” emphasizing that sustainability need not come at the cost of quality or functionality.
An important sustainable aspect of the ‘Glide’ suitcase is its body shell, made entirely from recycled materials. Offcuts from the shell manufacturing process were finely crushed and remolded, reincarnated as a recycled shell.
Moreover, y43 hasn’t overlooked safety while aiming for sustainability. The ‘Glide’ features a caster stopper that halts movement with a single push, preventing accidental rolls on buses, trains, or slopes. A simple flick of the switch either engages or releases the lock, ensuring user-friendly operation.
