Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

Sumo culture at planned Ginza restaurant opening January 2026

Hanshin Contents Link announced Tuesday it will open a new sumo-themed entertainment restaurant in Tokyo’s Ginza district in January 2026, aimed at meeting the growing demand from international visitors for immersive cultural experiences.

The new venue, “THE SUMO LIVE RESTAURANT Hirakuza GINZA TOKYO,” will be the company’s second location, following the successful launch of its Osaka counterpart in 2024. It will be located in the Prime Ginza Yanagi-dori Building and will begin ticket sales on 1 August 2025.

The restaurant is built around the concept of “EDO Spirit – Sumo & Culture Experience -“. It seeks to offer a comprehensive cultural package by combining live sumo entertainment with high-end Japanese cuisine and a sake bar. The performances will take place on a full-size sumo ring, enhanced with modern sound, lighting and video, and will feature English commentary to ensure accessibility for international guests.

The company noted that while interest in traditional Japanese culture is rising among tourists, opportunities to watch official sumo tournaments are limited by season and location. The first Hirakuza venue in Osaka attracted over 36,000 visitors from more than 110 countries and regions in its first year, demonstrating strong demand for such an attraction. The company wants to provide an authentic cultural immersion.
