The Earth Day Action Okinawa Executive Committee has announced that is hosting the first-ever “Earth Day Action Okinawa 2023” event from 21 April till 5 May. The event will take place across four regions of the main island of Okinawa: Yanbaru, Okinawa, Naha, and Nanjo, with the aim of encouraging discussion on Okinawa’s future through the lenses of nature, environment, and tourism.
“Earth Day Action Okinawa 2023” is a grassroots initiative that focuses on the well-being of both people and the planet. The event will be based on nine ethical themes related to Earth Day Action, with various initiatives being promoted across Okinawa in alignment with these themes. This groundbreaking event is the first of its kind in Japan, joining similar efforts that have been held nationwide to contemplate the future of the Earth.
The event will showcase various themes, including local production and consumption, food waste, unused resources, and organic practices. Attendees can expect a diverse array of food, product demonstrations, sales, and presentations highlighting initiatives that focus on local production and consumption, food waste reduction, and the utilization of unused resources. In addition, the Kiiyama Store will celebrate its album release with a live performance, and Yoshimoto Okinawa comedians will entertain guests with skits. Participating companies will also have the opportunity to exhibit their environmentally conscious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other sustainable initiatives.
