Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

New ‘Circular Action’ targets 4000 households in Japan

Mitsui Fudosan Residential and ECOMMIT recently unveiled their new initiative to incorporate sustainability in everyday life. They’ve made this possible through their unwanted goods collection service, “Circular Action,” which came into action on May 16.

This initiative, falling under the umbrella of Mitsui Fudosan Residential’s sustainability drive, ‘Sustainable Living,’ partners with ECOMMIT, a company committed to creating comprehensive solutions for achieving a circular cycle of resources. The goal is to create a service that allows tenants to easily contribute to resource recycling, while also finding joy in their everyday lives.

The service has kicked off in five buildings in the Toyosu area, targeting approximately 4,000 households. The plan, however, is to expand this initiative gradually to include newly built condominiums provided by Mitsui Fudosan Residential and existing condominiums managed by the Mitsui Fudosan Residential Group.

The service comes with several compelling features that make participation a breeze. It enables effortless involvement in carbon-reducing activities by simply depositing unwanted items into permanent collection stations. Collected items are sorted and recirculated as resources, which contributes to a roughly 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to incineration. Furthermore, by leveraging a government support system for group collection, reward money is paid to the management association based on the amount of clothing collected.

Mitsui Fudosan Residential continues to push forward under its brand concept of “Life-styling x Aging Improvement,” developing products and services to meet diverse lifestyles. This initiative is one more step towards building a safer, comfortable, and sustainable society, actively contributing to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
