Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

New camp sharing app that even beginners can enjoy casually

Camping outdoors is always fun. But booking the camp site, preparing the necessary items for camping, let alone setting up the tent, requires a lot of hard work. By the end of the day, what was supposed to be a fun, relaxing time in the wilderness, may in fact turn into a stressful, exhausting let down.

To transform the idea of camping altogether, Camp Jyoshi Inc. has come up with a new app in July this year. It will undertake a lot of the burden needed for camping, turning the experience into something more casual and easier to enjoy.

The app is called “camcierge”, which blends the words “camp” and “concierge.” It is organized by women who are fond of camping to the extent that they know every small detail about it. Users can reserve a stylish camping site of their preference with one tap on their mobile phones and rent out a car if they don’t own one. Also, if they wish, the service will set the tent up for them upon their arrival and bring it down when they leave. Beginners of camping, not to mention women who find it difficult to set up their own tents, will find camping much easier if this kind of support is provided to them.

One of the biggest loads of camping is obtaining the items necessary for camping out in the wild such as tents, utensils, sleeping bags and lamps. Not only are they expensive to buy, they are also used only a couple of times a year when the opportunity for camping comes around. Camcierge suggests that users share these camping items when they go and stay at these camp sites. A sharing economy of renting out camp items provided by the app, will remove the barriers for those who are interested in camping but don’t have the equipment to do so.

What’s more, the camp items are specially picked stylish ones—something women are likely to prefer. The tents they can rent out are attractive Scandinavian Nordisk tents, plus their tableware are elegant and their sleeping bags comfy.

Camp Jyoshi’s concept is to create a “Neo Camp”— a new type of camping model that doesn’t require throwing away money and delivering hard labor.

Just a little bit of sharing, and a whole new world of relaxation in the wilderness may be at your reach.
