Art is a universal language, bridging gaps and connecting humanity across diverse spectrums. As we navigate the complex layers of the human experience, there emerges a necessity for spaces that acknowledge and address societal issues through the lens of creativity and expression. Catering to this need, Innovation Design has announced the opening of the “haishop social gallery” in Yokohama’s picturesque Minato Mirai district.
Setting a precedent in the social-art scene, the gallery, nestled within the charming confines of the haishop souvenir store, is founded on the concept of “solving social issues.” It will serve as a platform to exhibit and sell products and artworks themed around various societal challenges, thereby forging a nexus between commerce, creativity, and social consciousness.
The inaugural exhibition, running from June 17 to July 15, will feature works from Okinawa’s pioneering disability art platform, “Doorless Art Okinawa.” The event marks the first instance of the organization’s work being showcased outside Okinawa, paving the way for further recognition and support.
Art is not just an object or a pastime; it’s a window into the world’s societal landscapes. With this guiding philosophy, haishop social gallery aims to create a palpable change in society by embracing and highlighting the potent role of art in solving societal issues. The gallery is a reimagined space within the haishop store, serving as a canvas for artists to communicate their narratives centered on social challenges.
At a time when digital communication has simplified our lives, this gallery celebrates the value of a tangible, immersive experience. Through the gallery, the team at Innovation Design hopes to rekindle the joy of physically interacting with artworks, and through that process, connecting with the stories they tell.
The inaugural exhibition will be a collaborative showcase with the non-profit “Doorless Art Okinawa,” which serves as a support platform for artists with disabilities in Okinawa. The collaboration was borne out of a shared belief in the transformative power of art to uplift and empower.
The works of the Doorless Art Okinawa are a testament to the artistic prowess and resilience of these artists. The upcoming exhibition is set to include an array of diverse works, with approximately 60 pieces of art including paintings, mixed media, and digital artworks. Also on display will be miscellaneous items created in collaboration with vocational training and employment support establishments.
