Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

FUMIKODA’s new bags combines craftsmanship with sustainability

A new product launch reveals the new “MEGAN canvas” handbag, a collaboration between FUMIKODA and a longstanding fabric manufacturer, utilising recycled materials and artisanal techniques in its production.

The handbag’s canvas is woven using a traditional shuttle loom, a method that creates a textured fabric with notable durability. The material incorporates GRS‐certified recycled yarn, and the dyeing process reduces water usage, thereby lowering environmental impact. Production is intentionally limited – around 50 metres of fabric are produced per day, reflecting its quality‐focused approach.

Designed with daily work routines in mind, the bag offers sufficient room for laptops and documents and can be worn over the shoulder for ease of use. Its water-repellent surface and sturdy design, including a six-point stud base, support everyday durability. The use of strong artificial leather contributes to its overall strength and longevity without compromising on quality.

FUMIKODA channels a portion of its accessory sales to support IT education and vocational training programmes for disadvantaged children. The company also engages in upcycling surplus materials and collects used bags for student donations, reinforcing a circular economy. These efforts illustrate their approach to link responsible production with community support.
