The LITTLE ARTISTS LEAGUE, a global art collective aimed at tackling societal issues through the lens of art, is broadening its initiatives in promoting diversity and inclusivity. The group recently launched its INVISIBLE MUSEUM series, exploring what’s valuable yet often overlooked in society.
In February 2023, the Elephant’s Nose Terrace in Yokohama became the backdrop for the art collective’s exhibition and workshop. With a focus on invisible aspects of society, such as challenges facing visually impaired individuals, the exhibition has set the stage for further installations planned for the fiscal year 2024.
The INVISIBLE MUSEUM concept pushes viewers to consider the unseen yet crucial elements in society. Whether it’s pondering the future of visually impaired children, understanding the stigmas associated with hair loss, or embracing lifestyles conducive to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the LITTLE ARTISTS LEAGUE serves as a catalyst for public discourse.
Their recent workshops in Yokohama delved into interactive experiences for visually impaired children. Through a specially developed “Color to Sound System,” participants could create art and experience it auditorily, thereby transcending traditional visual limitations. The artwork will be displayed in Koganecho in October 2023 and is slated for future exhibitions, including one planned for 2024.
In addition to visual arts, the collective has ventured into ‘Scent Art,’ offering olfactory creations like ‘Six Kinds of Kindness Flowers’ and ‘Six Fragments of Journeys.’ These works are the result of a collaborative effort with Studio Kuuka, a welfare facility, and will be available at an exhibition at Yokohama University of Arts on October 14, with sales extending online.
Uruhara Kano, a visually impaired artist, contributed to the 2023 INVISIBLE MUSEUM by performing “Fragments of Sound,” opening new doors for her in the ‘Scent Art’ collaboration. The project will also incorporate creations from JOAA (Japan Organic Aroma Association) scent stylists, amplifying the collective’s reach and impact.
Initiated in April 2023, the LITTLE ARTISTS LEAGUE has begun a collaboration with Yokohama University of Arts. The partnership focuses on diversity art, including an upcoming series called “Flowers of Kindness,” and offering a multitude of workshops this October.
