ECOMMIT Co., Ltd., a Japanese firm with a focus on resource circulation infrastructure, updated its PASSTO service to include new reward and campaign functions. The update aims to incentivise the circular economy by visualising environmental contributions and offering tangible benefits to users who choose to pass on unwanted items rather than discarding them.
The primary addition to the PASSTO LINE official account and mini-app is “MY PASSTO LOG,” a reward function designed to track and celebrate user participation. When users utilise the “Home Pickup PASSTO” service to clear out unwanted goods, they receive “Thanks Flowers” as a digital token of appreciation.

To further engage users, the update incorporates gamification. As participants accumulate flowers, they progress through different stages and unlock a collection of digital illustrations. These artworks are created specifically for PASSTO by a Fukuoka-based illustrator, and feature endangered animals threatened by climate change. Users who reach specific milestones can also download exclusive wallpapers.
In addition to the log function, ECOMMIT introduced a collaboration campaign with various brands and companies. PASSTO now offers discount coupons to users who send in specific items for collection.
The PASSTO service functions as an entry point for resource circulation in daily life, providing sorting and redistribution for the items collected. Goods suitable for reuse are returned to the market, while those that have reached the end of their functional life are recycled into raw materials or recycled fibres. According to ECOMMIT, the reuse and recycling rate for clothing collected via PASSTO stands at approximately 98 per cent, a figure that gives optimism to a circular economy as a norm in Japan.
