Earth Day 2025 in Japan is shaping up to be a meaningful and engaging experience for anyone eager to protect and celebrate our planet. Whether you’re in Tokyo or elsewhere in the country, there are plenty of ways to get involved in environmental action and awareness.

Scheduled for April 19 and 20 at Yoyogi Park, Earth Day Tokyo 2025 is one of the largest and most influential eco-focused festivals in Japan. Attracting over 100,000 attendees annually, the event brings together citizens, businesses, artists and activists in a shared effort to promote sustainability.

Highlights include eco-friendly booths offering sustainable products, services and ideas, live music and art performances by environmentally conscious creators, and an NPO Village where visitors can connect with non-profits championing environmental causes. The event is free and open to the public, running from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on both days.

The year 2025 marks 80 years since the end of World War II and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In honour of this historical milestone, Earth Day Tokyo 2025 has adopted the theme “Peaceful Change.” The event’s slogan, “Let the Heartbeats of a Million Resound,” expresses the belief that diverse thoughts and actions, connected through a shared rhythm, can generate the collective power to move society. Every individual’s heartbeat, representing life, hope, and action, can drive us toward an inclusive future.
The main visual was created in collaboration with mouth-painting artist Aya, who is paralysed from the neck down. Depicting Earth painted atop a white puzzle, the image symbolises peace through diversity, each puzzle piece unique, yet connected. The font used, “Mikkyon,” was co-designed by people with disabilities and designers, with its red hue evoking the colour of a heartbeat.
Across Japan, local governments, communities and individuals are organising clean-up drives, tree-planting events and educational workshops throughout April. Earth Day’s movement will extend beyond the Yoyogi Park event with activities in different areas in Japan, held over three months nationwide.
